Venue: Unknown
Type: Friendly
Result: 3-3
Still tryin different formations and looking at new faces, we took on another Olympian League team on Saturday and once again came away disapointed with the result.
Tryin 3 at the back we soon went into a 2-0 lead with Flynie and Skinny(pen) getting on the scoresheet. Two or three clear cut oppertunities followed, which would have made the game over before half-time.
As a group the team were defending extremely effectively, however with 10-minutes to go in the first half two individual errors allowed Catholics back in the game.
As planned we made overall 6 changes with the oppo making only 2, which quite obviously will not help our cause. But that was my promise and that was not going to change.
Changing to a more traditional 4-4-2 the guys took the game to the oppo and definately had the greater oppertunitys. Whilst the oppo were quite obviously young and extremely fit the guys matched them run-for-run, which would never of happened in years gone past. Catholic's scored a scrappy goal to take the lead with about 17-minutes to go, which may have been an excuse to pack up and go home. As expected the guys dug in and scored a fabulous goal, which ended with Willis having run 40 yards slotting home compentently in the bottom corner. We continued to push on without further reward.
The reality was we had an incredible amount of shots on goal and credit to the oppo they defended well. We tried to give 17 guys a game and Catholics stayed with 13.
If you were to tell me that after 3 games against higher league opposition we would remain undefeated and disapointed that we never one all of them I would have bitten your arm off.
Things now start to get serious and we need to start looking towards a 1st eleven squad who will hopefully do the club proud.
